Placement Tests
New students are placed in appropriate classes according
to their performance on the following tests: SLEP, Writing Sample,
and Speaking.

| SLEP | Part 1: Listening with a tape. Includes conversation, matching dialog with written text, matching descriptions with pictures, and map reading. Part 2: Reading comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar. |

| Writing Sample |
Students write on one prompt. Writing is scored according to the TWE (Test of Written English) Scale. |

| Speaking | The speaking test consists of 3-4 contextualized speaking tasks. Students are given directions for each task orally (by listening to a CD) and in writing. They are allowed a specified number of seconds to respond to each task. Each task is independently rated on a scale of 20-60. An EIL teacher administers the exam to each student and rates the student responses. |
