Alumni from the International Cultural Studies (ICS) program have pursued a wide range of professions in government, education, and industry. Some of these include working in non-profit governmental organizations (NGOs), international public relations, conflict mediation, university coordinator for international student programs, international sales and marketing, speech writer, diplomat, intercultural and international training and development, international outreach officer and video production.

Throughout your university education, we strongly advise you to do three things that will help prepare you for the career of your choice:

1. Join an association of professionals who are doing the kind of work you are interested in. (Click here to list of some professional associations that may be of particular interest to ICS students).

2. Do an internship in the professional area and with the organization you are interested in. (Click for some basic information about internships).

3. Select some of your major classes and university electives with your future profession in mind.

Below we have listed career opportunities that ICS students have expressed interest in because of the value placed on the ability to navigate complex cultural spaces. Students often wonder what classes they should take in ICS and for their university electives as they prepare for one of these particular careers. Though there are no hard and fast guidelines, we offer suggestion regarding course choices, professional associations, internships, and the types of jobs available for each of the following.
