Comments on ICS Program: Hands down the most underrated major and best kept hidden secret on campus. The program helped me realize my academic potential and more than prepared me in my professional development and career.

Advice for future ICS Graduates.: The possibilities are limitless with the knowledge gained in this program. Also, contrary to popular belief, a graduate degree is not absolutely neccessary to find a "high paying" job. Utilizing the ICS major as terminal degree, there are many, many good opportunities out there. You just need to know how and where to look. Each graduate's attitude, intiative and relationships that they have formed(human networking) will determine the path that will be taken.
Start networking NOW and early - this is the key to your career!

Comments on ICS Programm: The ICS program is wonderful for learning to think abstractly, develop new ideas, and think critically about culture from different perspectives. Most programs focus on skill-sets which change rapidly and leave students with a short term education. ICS gives you a wonderful foundation of knowledge in the liberal arts and modern culture. Its up to each of us to find the application for ourselves. Recently, I've found the most joy in discovering new applications for what I learned in the program with a new project I'm working on.

Advice for future ICS Graduates.: Always measure yourselves by the world's very best at whatever you do!

Comments on ICS Programm: This is an amazing project, but not for the faint of heart. It requires thinking, questioning and rediscovering yourself in this world. It has helped open my mind, and is a worthwhile program for anyone interested.

Advice for future ICS Graduates.: Don't be afraid to talk with the professors in the deparment about future plans. This school has an amazing student/teacher ratio, and it should be taken advantage of. Also, do your best to plan out what you want to do with the degree early on.

I believe the fundamental philosophy taught in the ICS program remains to facilitate efforts in diverse areas of employment and education.

Advice for future ICS Graduates.: Enjoy, and give gratitude for the reading material provided for your benefit, learning, and understanding. I would also offer encouragement to actively involve yourself regularly in study groups with your colleagues and discussions with the incredible savvy professors of the ICS program!

Years Attended BYU-Hawaii: 93-97/98-99/grad2000

Comments on ICS Programm: ICS:Always imitated, never, ever duplicated. I LOVED the program during my time@BYUH mainly because the faculty were righteous men&women who loved the Lord and their families, as well as the extremely critical disciplines of daunting academics. Their righteous examples are what turned me on to philosophy and film in the first place! I could be BOTH LDS as well as a philosophical thinker and I have the ICS Faculty as exemplars for this. Besides, it's so wonderful to take what I've learned from ICS and then lovingly&tactfully share my testimony with world class thinkers when I am engaging academically in the international scene. I was even able to get Slavoj Zizek a Book of Mormon and answer some of his questions about the church!

We need more members in academia:o) Some of the wonderful things that ICS got me thinking about are: -Discriminatory Body Shapes of the Woman -Roland Barthes Semiology -Cinema -Racism(don't deny it-it's all around us and everyone has it-ICS made me deal with it) -Hierarchal stupidity -Self Worth -Pacific Consciousness -Beyond Postmodernity --too many things to list, but you get my drift.

So far, ICS is the finest program I've experienced. Advice for future ICS Graduates.: While there are many, many academic programs around the world that are in the trend of what ICS does, you will not get it with the same Spirit(check out D&C 93)the way ICS has it. I learned to be both my spiritual best as well as my philosophical best in ICS and since graduating from the program, I've found that all my academic thinking MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A PURER INTELLIGENCE, which is, of course, the Spirit--it's so important in my life! I thank my Heavenly Father for the enlightenment I was given from ICS--there's nothing like it.

You, too, can receive, personal revelation(s) for so many things in your academic life, as well as in your personal one. Check out 2 Nephi 4:23 for a GREAT example of what I'm sayin', ya heard? And if you get a chance, try to travel abroad---it's good for ya! May the Lord bless you as he has with us, and may you take the Aloha with you wherever you sojourn with the 'iron pack' of discourse ICS offers:O)

PS-Obey the ICS professors, and don't think you're smarter than them!!!'cause you ain't. Submit: Submit

Comments on ICS Program: I love the ICS Program and all the ICS Professors! Hi everyone! The newsletter is great! I had so much fun reading it! I am so glad to know that the ICS students now have the opportunities to have internship around the world. How fun!

I also want to update my recent accomplishment. I just graduated at the Westlake Culinary Institute and got my Professional Chef Diploma. My next goal is to put my traditional chinese cooking mix with the French or other style of cooking together. I recently working on creating my recipes. Hopefully, I will have my first cookbook publish soon. I am also going to cater a few big events in this coming few months. I have learned so much about the different cultures from food and cooking. I totally love it!

Comments on ICS Programm: Getting a degree in International Cultural Studies was the best academic decision I ever made.  This is because my learning experience branched far beyond academia, reaching into realms of intrapersonal exploration and self realization.  So many unforgettable individuals influenced who I am today.  They still influence the person I hope to become.  These individuals are my professors and my classmates: my friends.

Advice for future ICS Graduates.: My advice would be to know yourself and the unique qualities and passions you have to give the world.  Your ICS program, professors, and classmates can help you in this process of exploration, but only you and the Lord can determine how you can help influence the establishment of peace.  My most revelatory moments of self discovery came when I felt that my potential was pushed to its capacity.  Peace is possible.

Comments on ICS Programm: A great program for those interested in developing critical thinking skills. Take note, however,
as deconstruction is of no value to you in the work place unless you have the mental tenacity to re-organize those
fragmented concepts, structuring them together into something productive and useful. ICS does provide access to those
skills, but you have to go looking for them.

Advice for future ICS Graduates.: Get an internship BEFORE you graduate. Future employers and grad programs like to see
you put your brain to work with real world application.

Comments on ICS Program: I am glad to be proud of ICS since I know that Communication starts from who you are and what you are. I am glad for th BYUH ICS professors, I got to say all what needed to be said in this imperfect world. Now I am glad to be who I am and for what I am worth. ICS has shown me that I am more than what I will never become. I have dealt with worldly harsh issues in my life and ICS was a way for me to express my opinions and not care what anyone thought. The world is not perfect and ICS is the major to get that drilled into your head. If you only got a degree and a bunch of A's and do not agree with what you read, then you have learned nothing of the real outside world.ICS was the major of studies for me and who and what I am, a pure blooded Latino born and raised in the Barrios of California, life is always negative and it is how we see the world and how we better understand it from another persons point of view. If you have not learned to do that, you! r career at BYUH in ICS was wast of your time. It is all about being in someone elses shoes. I LOVE ICS and Proud to be Latino born and raised in America

Advice for future ICS Graduates.: If you you think it is all about the A's in a degree, then dont waste your time not trying to understand someone elses point of view. Dont judge just shut and listen to the negative world, be real and not fake after you leave ICS after you gradaute from BYUH.
